New Port Richey Public Library
5939 Main Street, New Port Richey, FL, 34652
The New Port Richey Public Library is the City of New Port Richey's library, on Main Street in the heart of the city. It is an independent city library rather than a branch of the Pasco County system, and it is the only public library in Pasco County that does not belong to the county's library cooperative, though the two systems work together and the library honors Pasco County cards. Inside, the library offers what residents expect and a few things they might not. There is a large collection of books, movies and digital downloads, with streaming and interlibrary loan, an Express Pickup service and homebound delivery for those who cannot visit. Public computers, printing, scanning and faxing are available, with free Wi-Fi inside the building and on the grounds. Visitors can reserve meeting rooms through the library's online calendar. Reviewers single out the helpful librarians, the film selection and a children's area upstairs with a wide choice of books for older kids. Several programs make the library a community hub. A Seed Exchange Library lets gardeners swap seeds, and an Art on the Move collection and technology devices are available to borrow. Regular offerings include story-time sessions, StoryWalk, Tasty Tuesdays and theater passes, and the library takes part in local events from the New Port Richey Film Festival to a Riverside Concert Series. A Monarch festival with milkweed plants and a mobile library branch round out its outreach. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed on Sunday. Library cards are free to Pasco County residents, New Port Richey city property-tax payers, local government employees and members of reciprocal libraries. Adults need a photo ID and proof of address, and a courtesy card is available without them. The current building opened in 1991, and a major renovation completed in 2022 added solar panels on the roof. The library traces its roots to 1920. The library is at 5939 Main Street.
