Bold Notion Quilting

7075 Hope Hill Road, Brooksville, FL, 34601

Down a country stretch of Hope Hill Road east of Brooksville, Bold Notion Quilting is the kind of shop that quilters drive a distance to find. It is a working quilt shop, a longarm service center and, through its website, a teaching studio with students far beyond Hernando County. The business is the creation of Lauren Jackson, who began quilting "by accident" with simple memory quilts, taught herself the longarm and built an audience online. A military spouse, she ran the business online for about seven years before opening the Brooksville storefront, which a 2023 FOX 13 Tampa Bay feature described as a little over a year old. Her approach, reviewers say, is warm and hands-on: the owner's interactive style makes visitors feel like part of the family. Inside, the shop stocks quilting fabric, notions and a wall of Glide thread that longarm quilters in particular single out, along with wide 108-inch backing fabrics and the rulers used for free-motion quilting. The quilts and samples on the walls are for display and inspiration rather than for sale. Customers who would rather hand the work off can order longarm quilting, including edge-to-edge designs on quilts they send in and custom quilting by inquiry. For people who want to do the work themselves, Bold Notion sells APQS longarm machines and iQ Robotics, and it offers certified technician services for those machines. The shop's website also hosts online courses, free lessons, limited-seat live classes and class kits. Course offerings have included a beginner's guide to free-motion quilting, a drawing course on pebbles, feathers and ribbon designs, and a quilt-along, and a Thread of the Month Club delivers new thread by subscription. Technician visits, special parts and one-on-one class time are arranged through the shop's contact form. The shop is open to walk-in customers Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is closed Sunday through Tuesday. Google lists in-store shopping, curbside pickup and delivery. Because the shop is small and hours are limited, it is worth checking the Facebook page or calling ahead before making the drive. Bold Notion Quilting is at 7075 Hope Hill Road, Brooksville.
