Hernando County Government Center

20 N Main Street, Brooksville, FL, 34601

The Hernando County Government Center at 20 North Main Street is the civic heart of downtown Brooksville, a brick complex that houses the county's courthouse and several of the offices residents most often need. The courthouse portion was built in 1988 and joins the county's historic 1913 courthouse, with the four-sided clock between the two buildings a familiar downtown landmark. Several constitutional offices keep their main locations here. The Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller has its main office on the first floor, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (352) 754-4201. The Tax Collector's main office, in Room 112, handles motor vehicle registration and other tax services on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., opening at 9 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month, and can be reached at (352) 754-4180. The County Attorney's office is on the fourth floor, and the building also houses courtrooms and the State Attorney's office for Hernando County. Public meetings of the Board of County Commissioners take place here in the John Law Ayers Room on the first floor. The board meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 9 a.m., with the first Tuesday reserved for land-use hearings and workshops; agendas, minutes and video are posted on the county's website. Not every county office is in this building. County Administration, Parks and Recreation, Utilities, Building, Planning, the Property Appraiser, the Supervisor of Elections and the Sheriff all operate from other addresses around the county, so it is worth calling the main number before visiting. The county's main line is (352) 754-4000, and the website at hernandocounty.us lists departments, locations and hours. There are no building-wide hours, because each office sets its own. The Government Center is a short walk from the shops and restaurants of downtown Brooksville.
