Ruby Ray's Healthy Cafe

1254 S Broad St, Brooksville, FL, 34601

Tucked into the back of a natural foods store in South Plaza, at the corner of Cortez Boulevard and South Broad Street in Brooksville, Ruby Ray's Healthy Cafe is a small, owner-run lunch spot built on a simple idea: good food starts with good ingredients. The cafe is the work of Jimmie Ray Rodgers and his sister Shannon, who has a culinary degree. Rodgers had shopped at Get Healthy, the natural foods store whose back room now houses the cafe, for more than three decades before he asked about renting the space. The cafe held a friends-and-family grand opening on June 30, 2025, and has been serving customers since. The menu is short, clean and focused on wholesome, largely organic ingredients. Sandwiches, served on fresh, never-frozen bread and filled with house-made spreads, are the centerpiece: honey-nut fruit chicken salad, Angus roast beef salad, egg salad, tuna salad, pimiento cheese and a vegan chickpea salad, plus a Full House Sampler for the undecided. Salads include Granny's House Salad and a Brooksville Caesar, and the soup list leans on tomato bisque. Breakfast means a yogurt parfait or a breakfast burrito, and the kids' "Little Rubies" menu covers peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese. The drink menu is where the health-food credentials show. There are fruit smoothies, including a green one and a peanut butter version, açaí bowls, mushroom-infused coffee, hot tea and bottled kombucha. Dessert is modest: an Amish chocolate cupcake, macaroons and protein bites. Most items run roughly $4 to $11, according to the cafe's online ordering page, which offers both pickup and delivery. Items are sometimes marked unavailable there, so it is worth calling ahead if you have a particular order in mind. Google reviewers describe friendly service and thoughtfully made food, and they single out the chicken salad sandwich, the chickpea sandwich and the smoothies. The cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Sunday. Dine-in, takeout and delivery are all available. To order or ask a question, call (352) 679-5867 or visit the cafe's website.
