Russell Street Park

28 Russell St., Brooksville, FL, 34601

Russell Street Park is a small, shaded city park on Russell Street in Brooksville, and its most useful role may be as the western trailhead of the Good Neighbor Trail. Walkers, runners and cyclists heading out on the trail begin here, and those finishing a ride find a place to sit in the shade before turning back. The park's character is simple and unhurried. Mature oaks cover much of the grounds, and under them are covered picnic tables and a gazebo, structures built in 1997 with the help of a Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant. The shelters make the park a comfortable spot for a lunch break, a small family gathering or a rest on a hot afternoon, and the gazebo gives it a quiet focal point. The park sits close to two of Brooksville's historical attractions. The 1885 Train Depot and the Countryman One-Room Schoolhouse, both operated as museums, are nearby, so a visit can be paired easily with a short walk through the city's past. Downtown Brooksville is also a short distance away. Russell Street Park is owned and maintained by the City of Brooksville, whose parks are generally open from dawn to dusk. Restroom availability is not listed by the city, so visitors planning a longer stay should come prepared. For questions about the park or about reserving a pavilion, contact City of Brooksville Parks & Recreation at (352) 540-3830. Whether used as a starting line for the trail, a picnic stop or simply a place to sit beneath the oaks, the park offers an easy, no-cost way to spend time outdoors in the heart of Brooksville.
